General Information about Little League All Stars

As a general outline of the time table for games to be played. All games will start at 6 pm on the date specified. In order to maintain this schedule, the host team should be done with on field warm ups by 5:15 pm on the day of the game. The team that travels should have the field between 5:15 and 5:45. Between 5:45 and 6 pm all the field preparation should be complete, the teams announced, National Anthem played and the teams should be ready to go.

Little League provides some tips for coaches and those responsible for the All Star games. You may want to review them. They add to this list daily.

Umpire Details

In the Southern Tier and for the 10/11 games, the umpires are set by District 5. If you play in the Northern Tier, each team should provide ONE umpire. The home plate umpire will be selected by a coin toss before the game.

Coaching Reminder

12 or fewer players rostered and at the game site: 1 manager and 1 coach allowed in the dugout.

13 or more players rostered and at the game site: 1 manager and 2 coaches allowed in the dugout.

If they have a separate score keeper he is not allowed in the dugout and cannot communicate with anyone in the dugout. So, in other words, during tournament play, it is expected that one of the adults that are allowed in the dugout should and must be the score keeper.

The "Host" Teams responsibilities

As the host team, you will be responsible for providing the following things when you host a game in the all-star tournament:

  • A flying US Flag
  • A Public Address (PA) system
  • The official scorer (Keeps the pitch count as well)
  • Feeding the players and coaches for both teams and usually umpires after the game.\
  • A performance of the Star Spangled Banner (recording is fine)
  • An announcer
  • Have the Little League Pledge (on the back cover of the rule book)
  • Working scoreboard

As the host team, you are not necessarily the home team. That is determined by the toss of a coin before the game.

The field should get it's final lines and then proceed with the items listed below before a game.

Before the game the announcer should do the following:

  • Welcome everyone to the field for the game between indicate the teams.
  • Introduce one team and their players. As they are introduced have them stand on their foul line.
  • Introduce the second team in the same manner.
  • Introduce the umpires for the game.
  • Have everyone stand for the National Anthem, play it or have a singer.
  • Have the players repeat the Little League Pledge.
  • Release both teams to their dugout and wish everyone good luck.

During the game the announcer will introduce each batter and then summarize the runs and hits after each half inning of play. Most umpires do not want balls and strikes announced as that slows down play.

After the game, announce the food for players is available at the snack shack and congratulate all teams.

The official scorer should record the pitcher information on each teams tournament affidavit. There is a place for that on the back page. The umpires will initial that or the score book also.

Any and all profit after the above stays with your local association. Players and coaches are fed a hot dog or hamburger, chips and a drink.
